Lion is a noble beast. With his strength and size, he commands the respect of the other animals. He is king of the savanna and all he surveys. But one day, even all this was not enough for Lion. Life seemed too small—his skin felt too tight, he couldn’t sleep, he lost interest in the Great Hunt.

“Why don’t you go to the moon?” Mouse said to him, after many weeks of this behavior.

“And what is on the moon, Little Mouse?” Lion growled back.

“Cheese, of course.”

“And what does Lion want with a moon full of cheese?” he roared.

“Doesn’t everyone wish for a moon full of cheese?” Mouse squeaked, and then ran before Lion’s big paw could come smashing down on him.

But Mouse’s words stayed with Lion, ringing in his ears as he rolled over in the sleepless night hours. What was wrong with going to the moon, even if it was full of cheese? He opened his eyes and stared at the silver circle hanging heavy in the heavenly night.

Maybe he would go to the moon and see what it had to offer.
